What is a personal chief of staff?

A personal chief of staff runs the operations of someone's private life the way a company chief of staff runs a CEO's office. They sit above the day-to-day, manage the people and the moving parts, and make decisions on your behalf within limits you set, so the whole of your private life stops landing back on your desk.
Picture someone with three homes, a household team at each, a PA who is now stretched thin, and a calendar that shifts by the hour. None of it is difficult on its own. Together it becomes a full job, and the person doing that job is usually the principal, in the gaps between everything else. A personal chief of staff is who that job properly belongs to. They hold the whole picture, direct the staff and suppliers, and become the single point of contact for anything to do with your private life, so you deal with one trusted person rather than fifteen.

It helps to set the role against the ones near it. A PA executes the tasks you give them, while a chief of staff manages the operation those tasks belong to, the PA included. A house manager runs a single property well; a chief of staff runs everything across several properties and the people in them. An executive assistant supports your work; a personal chief of staff supports your life. The further up that ladder you go, the more the role becomes judgement and oversight rather than doing.
Most people reach for one at a fairly predictable point. The private staff they employ has grown large enough that managing it now takes real time out of their week. Homes and travel have multiplied and nothing joins up. Decisions about their own life sit waiting because there's no one trusted to make them. Or a once-comfortable PA is now well underwater. Any one of those is a sign the operation has outgrown the person running it.
There are two ways to fill the role. You can employ a chief of staff outright, which means a senior salary, a long search for someone you trust without reservation, and the exposure of one person carrying everything in their head. Or you can use a service that does the same work with a team behind it and continuity built in. Ten Ahead is the second of those: a chief of staff for your personal life, without the headcount
Common questions
Is this the same as a chief of staff in business?
The same idea in a different setting. In a company they run the CEO's office; for an individual they run private life and the people in it.
Do I have to employ one?
Not with us. We provide the role as a service, so there's no salary to carry and no single person who walks out with everything they know.
Chief of staff or lifestyle manager?
They overlap. We say chief of staff when there are staff and several homes to oversee, and lifestyle manager when it's more about running daily life.
